A new theory of aging titled A Microcirculatory Theory of Aging has been proposed by Dr. Kunlin Jin and published in the June 2019 issue of Aging and Disease. Dr. Jin’s theory explains that poor circulation in the body’s micro-capillaries is the fundamental cause of aging. It is the 70,000 miles of micro-capillaries, NOT your arteries, veins & heart, that deliver oxygen & nutrients to the trillions of cells in your body.
Dr. Jin’s theory provides a deeper layer of understanding to the aging process. Poor micro-capillary circulation causes hypoxia (low oxygen) in cells which increases production of free radicals and specifically damage to DNA in mitochondria. Thus, poor micro-capillary circulation results in decreased delivery of nutrients & oxygen to cells and a decline in production of cellular energy (ATP). This causes cells to under function and mal-function, resulting in cellular death. This is the underlying cause of cellular death and aging.
